✈️ Airport Lounges and VA Life: My Between-Flights Routine
Oct 09, 2025✈️ How I Work as a Grooming VA Between Flights in the Delta Lounge
Right now as I’m writing this, I’m sitting in the Delta lounge with my laptop open, getting some virtual work done between flights. I’m not saying you need to fly Delta or that this is the “one right way” to live your VA travel dreams — this is just what works for me (and some of my VA proteges). I also like the bonus strategy that comes with it, so it’s a win-win.
Working as a grooming industry VA means you don’t have to be tied to a fancy home office or even your familiar coffee shop. Your business can literally travel with you. And yes, sometimes that means answering emails with a free cappuccino in hand while planes take off outside the window.
The Pros of Working in a Lounge
-
Reliable Wi-Fi: Stronger than the main terminal, perfect for email and client files.
-
Outlets everywhere: No more hunting for a free plug in a crowded gate area.
-
Snacks & coffee included: Fuel without paying $12 for airport food.
-
Calmer vibe: Lounges feel less frantic, so it’s easier to focus.
The Cons (let’s be real)
-
It’s still an airport: There will be background noise and announcements.
-
Wi-Fi isn’t flawless: When it’s packed, speeds can dip.
-
Time limits: You’re working on a clock before your next flight.
-
Temptation everywhere: Free wine, buffet, comfy chairs = distractions.
My Actual Routine Between Flights
When I sit down, I make the most of the 2–3 hours with “quick wins”:
☕ Grab coffee and a snack to settle in
📧 Clear my inbox + reply to client emails
📲 Schedule social posts in Canva or Meta Business Suite
I teach my VA students to consider adding in:
🐾 Update price sheets or appointment reminders in Google Docs
💸 Send invoices or mark payments received
📞 Check virtual voicemails + jot notes on client needs
This isn’t where I draft a full course or film a video — but it’s perfect for bite-sized work that keeps the business moving.
How You Can Get Lounge Access (2025 Basics)
You don’t need to be a jet-setter with 100k miles to get in. Here are the main ways in 2025:
Credit Cards
-
Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Amex → 15 visits per year when you’re flying Delta (unlimited if you spend $75k in a calendar year). The annual fee is about $650 in 2025, and it includes a companion certificate each year.
-
Amex Platinum → 10 visits per year when flying Delta. The annual fee is about $695 in 2025. No companion pass, but you do get hotel/travel credits and access to other lounges (Centurion + Priority Pass).
Paid Memberships
Any Medallion member (Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond) can purchase a Sky Club membership. Cost is about $695/year for individual or $1,495/year for executive with guest access.
Status/Cabin Perks
Flying internationally in Delta One or certain partner premium cabins comes with Sky Club access. A nice perk when you splurge!
Day Passes
Around $50–$60 at most clubs; Grab & Go lounges (select airports) are about $25.
👉 Heads up: Basic Economy tickets don’t qualify for lounge access, even if you’ve got one of the right cards.
So, Should You Work From a Lounge?
It’s not for everyone. Some people prefer a coffee shop or just working from home before heading to the airport. For me, the lounge is a sweet spot: I get a little work done, I feel calmer before boarding, and I’m not drained by the chaos of the terminal.
At the end of the day, it’s all about making your VA business fit your lifestyle. If your dream is to work from anywhere — a grooming salon back office, your couch, or an airport lounge — the point is the freedom. And that’s the real win. 💻✨
